Good to know

Policy

We hold ourselves to the same standard here as everywhere else: straight with you, and fair both ways.

Simple, Upfront Pricing

Tell us where you're going and we'll confirm your fare before your ride. No surge pricing. No meter. No surprises.

  • Waiting time: First 15 minutes complimentary, then $1.00 per minute (airport pickups follow the longer complimentary window below).
  • Tolls are charged at cost and shown as their own line on your quote — never added afterwards. A trip into New York crosses a tolled bridge or tunnel in both directions — the car has to come back — and into Manhattan it also pays the city's congestion charge. That is a flat $29 to Manhattan and $50 to LaGuardia or JFK, charged the same whether we are dropping you there or collecting you. Newark and local trips cross no tolls at all. Parking, where a trip needs it, is charged at cost and agreed with you first.
  • Want a ballpark before booking? Call (908) 666-3777 or text us and we'll give you a straight answer.
Reservations

We'd rather make it work for you than turn you away over a form. Advance notice helps us guarantee your exact time, but we'll always try to fit you in.

  • Advance reservations are recommended.
  • Same-day bookings are accepted based on availability.
  • You'll receive confirmation once your trip is accepted.
Cancellations
  • More than 2 hours before pickup: No charge
  • 2 hours to 1 hour before pickup: $25
  • Less than 1 hour before pickup, or once your driver has set off: $50
  • No-show: $50, or the minimum trip fare, whichever is greater
  • Once your driver has set off, any tolls or parking he has already paid are added at cost, whatever the reason for the cancellation. Newark and local trips cross no tolls; Manhattan is $29, and JFK or LaGuardia $50.
  • If the airline cancels your flight and your driver hasn’t set off yet: no charge at all. Just tell us as soon as you know — the airline did that, not you.
  • If the airline cancels and he is already on his way, or waiting for you at the airport: the $50, plus the tolls and parking he paid getting there. Nothing beyond that — we don’t start the waiting clock on top of it.
  • A long pickup means your driver leaves well before your pickup time — the further away you are, the earlier he sets off. We text you when he is on the way, so you will always know when that last tier has started.
  • And if we ever have to cancel on you, we will find you another ride or refund you in full.
Airport service
  • Flight status is monitored when flight information is provided.
  • Complimentary waiting time: 35 minutes for domestic flights, 45 minutes for international flights.
  • Additional waiting time beyond that is normally $1.00 per minute — but if your flight is delayed for reasons outside your control, we cover the extra wait ourselves. You'll never be charged more because your flight ran late.
  • A cancelled flight is handled differently from a delayed one — see Cancellations above. In most cases there is nothing to pay.
Vehicle care

To keep our vehicles clean and comfortable for every passenger:

  • No smoking. No cigarettes, cigars, vapes or e-cigarettes, at any time, including with a window down.
  • No alcohol in the car at all — not open, not sealed, not in a bag.
  • No cannabis, in any form — smoked, vaped or edible. It is legal in New Jersey, but not in this car: using it in a vehicle is against the law here, and it is the driver’s licence on the line, not yours.
  • No illegal drugs.
  • Please consume food and drinks carefully.
  • Excessive cleaning or damage caused by a passenger may result in an additional charge.
Safety
  • All passengers must wear seat belts.
  • Child safety seats must be provided by the customer unless arranged in advance.
  • The driver may decline service if a passenger's behavior creates a safety concern.
Payment
  • Payment is due at the completion of the trip unless prepaid.
  • Accepted methods: card, Venmo, Zelle, and cash. Every card — credit, debit, or a phone wallet like Apple Pay — is tapped in the car on a Square reader.
  • Cash, Zelle and Venmo carry no processing fee. Only card payments include the processor’s fee, passed on at cost and never marked up. We’ll always confirm your total with you before the ride, so nothing is added at the end that you haven’t already agreed to.
Service area

The Standard is based in New Providence and drives throughout northern and central New Jersey, into New York, and on long-distance trips by reservation.

Where we pick up. New Providence, Murray Hill, Berkeley Heights, Summit, Chatham, Madison, Millburn, Short Hills, Springfield, Westfield, Scotch Plains, Warren, Watchung, Mountainside, Cranford, Union, Livingston, Florham Park and the towns around them. If you are not on that list, ask — we travel further than it suggests.

Where we drive to. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), Manhattan and New York City, and the cruise terminals at Bayonne, Manhattan and Brooklyn. Also train stations, hospitals, hotels, weddings and any address you give us.

Passengers, luggage and child seats
  • Up to 10 passengers, with room for luggage. Tell us how many bags when you book and we will make sure the car suits the trip.
  • Child seats and booster seats are available at no charge. Say so when you book, and tell us the child’s age so we bring the right one and fit it before you come out.
  • If someone in your party needs a hand to the door or help with bags, say so when you book. There is no charge for it and no need to explain.
  • Service animals are always welcome.
By the hour, and trips with several stops

Not every trip is one address to another. A car and driver can be held for you by the hour, with no minimum — useful for an evening out, several appointments in one morning, a wedding, or a day of meetings.

  • Booked by the hour rather than by the route, so the number of stops does not change the price.
  • Tolls still apply where the trip crosses them, at cost, the same as any other trip.
  • Tell us roughly how long you need. If it runs over, we bill the extra time at the same rate — we do not re-price the booking.
Privacy & your data
Information we collect
  • Contact details: name, phone number, and email address you provide when booking.
  • Trip details: pickup and drop-off addresses, requested date and time, and any notes you add for your driver.
  • Payment information: card payments are taken in the car on a Square reader and processed by Square. Venmo and Zelle payments are made in those apps. The Standard never sees or stores your card number.
How we use your information
  • To confirm, schedule, and complete your trip.
  • To contact you about your booking — by email, text, or phone.
  • Text messages. When you book with us, by the website or by phone, you agree that we may text you about that ride — that we have your request, that it is confirmed, who your driver is, and anything that changes. Message and data rates may apply, and how often we text depends entirely on how often you ride. Reply STOP to any message and we stop texting you; reply HELP and we’ll tell you how to reach a person. We do not send marketing or promotional texts, and we never sell or share your number with anyone for their own messaging.
  • To calculate fares and process payment.
  • To improve our service and respond to questions or concerns.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Who we share it with
  • Payment processors (Square, and Venmo or Zelle if you choose them) to complete your payment securely.
  • Mapping and routing services (Google Maps) to calculate distance and fare estimates.
  • We do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers.
How long we keep your information

Booking and trip records are kept as needed for business, tax, and legal purposes. You may request that we delete your contact information from our records at any time, subject to any records we're required to retain by law.

Your choices
  • You can ask what information we hold about you.
  • You can ask us to correct or delete your information.
  • You can opt out of non-essential communications at any time.

To make any of these requests, contact us at hany@standardnj.com.

Security

We use industry-standard payment processors and secure connections (HTTPS) to protect your information. No online system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard your data.
